'Angel' is a chestnut thoroughbred mare, registered with the Jockey Club, under the name Alianza {A011O4}. Click here to see her pedigree.
She turned 15 years on January 23, 2012, and sticks at 16 hands high. She has been at Rivendell Farm since September 2004.
Angel was purchased to keep her from going to slaughter. She was on the race track ..somewhere..until she was 7. We are not sure why, as the only time she EVER runs at speed is when it's dinner time. (Maybe I should put her back on the track now...with carrots at the other end. lol. :-D
She is fun under saddle, quite sensible, but does make you ride her correctly. (You want her forward, on the bit, and moving off your leg? Ride her right. She gives 110% when asked properly. )
Angel, for being a princess about her blankets (she requires 2 blankets to stay warm...and will demand them if she is cold...), isn't too happy living in the barn, so she stays outside with her BFF Whimsey, and the tolerated, and much abused by the girls, Cowboy.
If it's dinner time, breakfast, you walk into the barn and she sees you, snack time, she is standing on cross ties and you walk away, Angel's going to be the one to talk to you. Sometimes loudly, sometimes just a nicker. She's the farms big talker, and it's one of my favorite sounds to hear each day.
Angel is only for lease.
$300 full (6 days a week) $200 partial (3 days a week) lease.
Lease is on the farm only. Includes use of tack (saddle may depend on need), and facilities.
Angel is currently at doing training level dressage with some 1st level movements. She is excellent (and a blast to ride) out on trails...after 15 minutes. She lets you know that she isn't thrilled to be out there, but she will tolerate it. You can w/t/c, hand gallop, jump (of course she will jump XC...just not in the arena...sigh..), and is pretty much spook free out there...after 15 minutes. lol. And yes I have clocked it. Have not been to any shows as of yet, but Angel has been to several other farms and parks off the property.
Angel is a lady about her cribbing habit, (no taking down the fences..she just holds the board and sucks in air), and wont wear a cribbing collar. (Miracle collars? Yea..she takes them off). She also thinks she looks smashing in black. Good thing she does dressage. :-D
